Shevchenko Program 2009

“...Learn from others, but do not forsake your own” (T. H. Shevchenko) was the theme of the UCOWPA 2009 Winter Program held at the Best Western Parkway Center Inn on Greentree Road in Pittsburgh.

Taras Hryhorovich Shevchenko is Ukraine's greatest poet, artist and champion of his people's freedom and is considered the founder of the modern Ukrainian language. UNESCO has twice celebrated him as a cultural leader of the world acclaim.

The Ukrainian Community of Western Pennsylvania honored the 148 Anniversary of T. Shevchenko’s death with a Concert by “Chervona Kalyna.” The beauty of this program was the involvement of all ages that participated in this event by reciting Shevchenko’s poems and singing Ukrainian songs.

The Program concluded with a buffet dinner and dance.
